Can be kept in hard, slightly alkaline water. Prefers tanks that have zones with tempered light, a dark soil, and some planted regions in the back, in between which the fish will swim and rest. Mostly the fish will inhabit the free swimming space in the middle of the tank, and the males will frequently display towards each other, and can be kept with other fish that have similar requirements, although the tank shouldn't be overcrowded. If fully grown and kept under the right circumstances the fish can be stunning!  Feeding: Omnivorous, all food is taken. Live insects are a special treat for the fish.

Breeding: If a suitable pair is placed in a small breeding tank with little light, soft acidic water, and a substrate (plants) spawning will take place. The parents should be removed or else they will eat the eggs. At a temperature of 26c degrees the eggs will hatch after 1-1.5 days, and be free swimming after another 3-4 days. Moenkhausia pittieri fry are small, and can only be fed with infusoria in the first week. If fed well, and combined with frequent water changes, the fry can grow quite fast.

Another perfect Tetra for any South American habitat aquarium.  Not a common find!  In a planted tank, it can only be described as a living jewel!  It's special fascination is that the fish's color changes and evolves with time. The body of the male is a metallic blue green, and the anal fin and lower rear of the body is red. As the male matures the tips of his pelvic and anal fins turn a brilliant white. As he matures further, the edges of the lobes of his tail turn white. The base of the tail is red and spreads over the remainder of the tail as he ages. When the male displays for spawning or dominance, the base of his anal and dorsal fins turn a deep black green color. The female has a more heavy body, and she is more of a metallic greenish blue in color. She has a hi-light of blue along her lateral line. She also has the red that the male has, but her fins are clear.  Keep these fish in schools of 1 dozen or more.

Here's another reason why people buy fish from us!  This unusual little guy is something you just don't see often.  Nope, it's not a common Chinese algae eater, although it may look like one, it's actually a Hummingbird Tetra!  A peaceful loner that should be kept either singly, or in a large group of eight or more fish.  If kept in groups smaller than about eight, fish can act aggressively.  Combine with small to medium-sized fish of upper swimming levels. An inquisitive fish, always investigating the tank floor.  Yes, these will nibble on algae!!! Breeding the Hummingbird is fairly easy. A pair spawns on the bottom, laying side to side. The parents should be removed from the tank after the eggs are laid. The 150 eggs fall between rocks and hatch after 30 to 40 hours. The fry have very small mouths and should be raised on food tablets, infusoria, and Artemia. A robust species, that is suitable for most community tanks!

Lemon Tetra Hyphessobrycon pulchripinnis

Additives: Black Water Expert found at Aquarium Supplements

Food: New Life Spectrum "Small Fish Formula found at Fish Foods

The lemon Tetra is a very good community fish but is happiest in a school of 6 or more of its own kind. The Lemon Tetra likes a planted aquarium balanced with plenty of open space to swim around with it's buddies. They are most comfortable in an aquarium with floating plants as well as some open spaces to swim in.

This is a very pretty fish, but the Lemon Tetra is most attractive if it is well maintained. It will show its best coloring with a proper diet which can be provided with a color enhancing food, such as NLS Foods listed above..   There is now a color morph which has been developed that is an albino form, but the lemon form is still preferred.
